Sue Bowman, MJ, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA is the senior director of Coding Policy and Compliance for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She serves as advocate, strategist, subject matter expert, and spokesperson for AHIMA and its members on national coding policy issues to advance health information quality, integrity, and interoperability. Ms. Bowman led AHIMA’s advocacy efforts for the US adoption and implementation of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. She serves as AHIMA’s representative to the Cooperating Parties, a group that sets national coding policy and guidance for the ICD code sets. She influences ICD code set development and maintenance processes at both the national and international levels and is a member of the World Health Organization’s Morbidity Reference Group, a group that has contributed to the development and updating of ICD-11.
