ACTIONS

  • Determine whether there will be a December 2006 or January 2007 meeting to address and/or make recommendations about the following issues: electronic prescribing; national provider issues; and HIPAA standards streamlining. Ms. Trudel will find out how much meaningful evaluation data on e-prescribing will be available for a December 2006 meeting or whether it makes sense to hold the meeting off for several weeks (evaluation report is due January 15, 2007).
  • A CHI letter (commissioned from Subcommittee discussions of October 11, 2006) will be coordinated by Ms. Greenberg and Dr. Huff. A draft letter will be ready for the full Committee meeting in November 2006.
  • Another letter about national provider issues (NPI) will be drafted by Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Trudel for the full Committee November 2006 meeting.
  • A third letter – about HIPAA standards – will require input from the entire Subcommittee and will be completed by Jim Scanlon’s office. The NHIN effort will be coordinated by Dr. Cohn, Mr. Blair, and Mr. Reynolds.
  • Dr. Randy Levin has been asked to provide advice to CMS (Ms. Trudel) for a draft letter to the Secretary relating to the NPRM and the NDC rule that will be reviewed by the full Committee at the November 2006 meeting.
  • Mr. Reynolds suggested creating a break-out time for the Subcommittee during the November 2006 full Committee meeting to determine a 2007 agenda.
